Fernando Pessoa: The Writer Who Gave His Characters Birth Charts

Fernando Pessoa was not only a writer. He created whole fictional people, almost like separate souls. These characters had their own names, personalities, writing styles, and even inner worlds.

What makes it more interesting is that Pessoa was deeply interested in astrology. He made birth charts for himself and for some of his fictional characters. For him, astrology was not just about prediction. It was a way to understand personality, destiny, and hidden patterns inside a person.

This is a beautiful example of astrology as imagination and self-understanding. A birth chart can feel like a map of a person's inner world — even when that person is a character in a book.

A birth chart needs only a date, a time and a place, which is why Pessoa could cast one for a person who never existed. If you are curious what that map looks like for you, the birth chart calculator draws one in your browser.
